Ethics

Why the organisation of a working group on Ethics?

Since the creation of the ESCB, committees and conferences have been constantly pushing. While some deal with benchmarking, others are tempted to harmonise all activities that can be harmonised by eradicating the specificities of our respective central banks. National ethics measures are not excluded from this practice.

The ECB has been working on revising its code of ethics, which wasbe validated by the Governing Council early in September 2021.

The ECB ask the SCECBU for an opinion on this project.

Internally within the SCECBU it seemed obvious to us that it was necessary to set up a working group “Ethics” which will be organised regurlarly to control the new rules that the national central banks will take according the new code of the ECB.

The purpose of this working group is to draw as broad a consensus as possible to assist the executive body of the SCECBU (the Executive Bureau) to render a fair and arguable opinion to the Governing Council.
